- Mission Statement -
To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
In 1986, the citizens of Western Oklahoma made the decision to establish a Young Men’s Christian Association. The Great Plains Family YMCA Incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit charitable organization and opened our doors to the community in 1987. We are affiliated with the National Council of YMCA’s of the USA.
In 1997, through generous donations, we opened the Ed and Winnie Ola Berrong Gymnasium to facilitate additional youth basketball, indoor soccer and fitness classes.
In 2000, the Great Plains Family YMCA opened the Carl Dunn Aquatics Center, which includes an indoor, four-lane swimming pool and a hot tub surrounded with sliding glass windows and doors.
In 2004, we were excited to purchase the property next door to accommodate the Child Development Center, serving ages one to four.
In 2018, we remodeled the Child Development Center adding new flooring, paint, wainscoting and a new bathroom. Further, we resurfaced the pool and repaired the atrium.
Recently, our fitness director added exciting new fitness classes including TRX, Raise the Bar, Barre and Extreme HIIT Chaos. Remember, all fitness classes are free with your membership! We also offer great new programs such as swim team (for masters and youth), mermaid classes, pickleball and youth 50-mile swim club.
Also in 2020, the YMCA renovated: installing new carpet, stair treads, lighting, resurfacing the track and enlarging the upstairs workout area.
The Great Plains Family YMCA has built collaborations with Harley’s House, Foster Parent Families, Route 66 Thunder, The City of Weatherford and The Oklahoma City Thunder.
In August 2020 our Child Development Center received a three-star National Accreditation which is the highest ranking we could receive!
Effective September 1, 2020 Tot’s Gym will become Kid’s Corner serving ages infant – ten years and this service is now free with your family membership!
