Letter from the CEO
Thank you for supporting the Great Plains Family YMCA! As a leading non-profit, the YMCA strives to provide programs and services that support the causes of Healthy Living, Youth Development and Social Responsibility.
Since 1987, the YMCA has been a staple in the community, has improved the quality of life for the people of Western Oklahoma and has made Weatherford a desirable place to live. The YMCA has also stepped up to meet community needs and provide a safe, positive environment that welcomes everyone.
Each year the YMCA conducts an Annual Sustaining Campaign that raises money for scholarships, provides free programs, and allows for facility improvements and general maintenance. In the last few years, the YMCA has undergone enhancements such as new lighting, carpet, paint, pool resurfacing, Child Development Center remodel, new equipment, and increased group fitness classes. But we are not done yet. The YMCA Board of Directors is working on strategic planning to better meet the community needs and continue the improvements on our facility.
To continue our good work, we need your support! When you give to the YMCA, your donation helps to provide membership and childcare scholarships for individuals that cannot afford to pay full price. This gives families a hand up and hope for a better future. Your donation provides FREE swimming lessons each summer to any child in the community and provides FREE swimming lessons to all second-grade students in the Weatherford and Hydro communities. This exposure to water and safety helps to prevent drownings and teach the important life skill of swimming. Your donation provides high school students the opportunity to participate in Youth and Government at no cost. This gives students the opportunity to learn about our government programs, experience civic engagement and practice democracy all while producing future leaders of tomorrow. Further, your donation allows us to offer Kid’s Corner, FREE childcare while you work out in the facility. Another way your donation helps the community is by providing a 50% discount to all foster families. Your donation helps to fund needed facility maintenance and improvements that would not be possible without your support.
Thank you for your continued support.

The Annual Campaign supports the community by investing IN our community through YMCA scholarships towards Y Programs like Youth In Government, Safety Around Water, Youth Sports, Childcare/Camp, Memberships, Route 66 Thunder, and more. Your contributions make these possible.
Donations to the heritage fund are invested into an Endowment Fund. The YMCA has created this fund to allow donations to grow and build interest and ensure the YMCA is always in a sound financial position. In 2019 the YMCA will conduct its Annual Heritage Club dinner and invites you to attend.
The building the YMCA occupies was initially built for roller skating and racquetball. While renovations have been done to make the facility function as a YMCA, much more could be done. Giving to the facility fund, allows money to be set aside for building renovation and major projects.
We’re always happy to help with any questions you may have about your YMCA! Feel free to call, email, come by, or fill out our Y Contact Form and someone will be in touch with you quickly.
